The Karl Barth Society of North America (KBSNA) encourages critical and constructive theology in continuity with the work of Karl Barth.
• Barth, Luther, and Politics –This pre-arranged session will feature two invited papers on the theme of “Barth and Luther” and “Barth and Politics” (no papers accepted).
• Barth and the Vulnerable – In honor of the 2017 AAR theme “Religion and the Most Vulnerable,” we invite papers exploring Barth’s life and theology that are attentive to the realities of the most vulnerable members of society. Papers engaging the political dimensions of Barth’s work, particularly in conversation with the current American political and social landscape, are encouraged. Potential topics include the relationship between Barth’s theology and vulnerable populations affected by the realities of mass incarceration, political authoritarianism, ethnic and racial discrimination, gender discrimination, sexual violence, international conflict, forced migration, anti-immigration movements, and ecological disasters such as climate-change.
