Evolution, Convergence, and Providence: Celebrating the Work of Simon Conway Morris

Abstract for Online Program Book (maximum 150 words)

This panel will explore the significance of Simon Conway Morris’s work for the field of science and religion. A particular focus will be the bearing of his ground-breaking work on evolutionary convergence for how we understand such questions as the directionality or purposefulness of evolution, human uniqueness, and whether divine providence is compatible with the naturalistic and putatively ‘blind’ mechanisms of evolutionary change.  Simon Conway Morris will provide a response.
