New Book Discussion: Psychedelics and Soul Care: What Christians Need to Know: A Conversation with Jaime Clark-Soles

This session engages Psychedelics and Soul Care: What Christians Need to Know (2027 Eerdmans) by Jaime Clark-Soles, which draws on biblical studies to address the place of intense religious experiences in Christianity, including psychedelic spiritual experiences. Clark-Soles integrates biblical/theological sources with the recent proliferation in scientific research into the potential mental health benefits of psychedelic substances like psilocybin and LSD, noting that biomedical researchers often link the “mystical-like” experiences with the mental health benefit. Clark-Soles was a volunteer research participant in the widely-reported Johns Hopkins University study on the “Effects of Psilocybin on Religious and Spiritual Attitudes and Behaviors in Clergy from Various Major World Religions” (2025), which led to the formation of Ligare: A Christian Psychedelic Society.
