The Status of Women and Gender Minoritized Persons in the Professions Committee warmly invites all woman-identified and gender-minoritized AAR members at any stage in their professions to the Listening and Mentoring Session for self-reflective, critical, and supportive conversations. This is a session in the politics of complaint (S. Ahmed): we are choosing to express the concerns regarding and limits of our institutional settings. From there, we hope to build additional plans and topics for how we can serve women and gender minoritized persons in the profession, whether through webinars, mentoring, or other means.
This session offers space for candid conversations about challenging issues the participants are facing due to their social identities, institutional culture, political climate, and more. Intended as peer-to-peer mentoring and conversation in a supportive environment, the session will host small group conversations on the topics, including academic freedom, scholarship, non-academic careers, research and publication, job search, professional development, social identity-related issues in professions, and graduate schools. All participants are expected to respect confidentiality and engage with one another with civility and without judgment.
No reservation is required. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. Feel free to bring your own lunch.
